---# How to Cancel ManyChat (2026): Steps and Refunds

> To cancel ManyChat, log in on the web, go to Settings -> Billing, click Cancel Subscription, choose a reason, and confirm. You keep paid features until the end of the current billing cycle, then drop to the Free plan with your flows and contacts intact. Refunds only apply within 30 days of purchase.

## Key takeaways

- Cancellation lives in Settings -> Billing on the web. The mobile app can't do it (ManyChat Help, 2026).
- You keep paid features until your billing cycle ends, then land on Free: 25 Active Contacts a month, 4 live automations, 2 channels, and a watermark.
- Flows and contacts survive cancellation. Deleting the account is a separate, permanent step with its own prerequisites.
- The refund window is 30 days from purchase, and approved refunds arrive within 10 working days.
- Export your contacts and screenshot your keyword triggers before you cancel. Both get harder once you're back on Free.

This guide covers how to cancel ManyChat properly: the exact steps from ManyChat's own help centre, the refund rules, and the 20 minutes of prep that save you from losing contacts or paying for a month you didn't want. The click itself takes two minutes. The prep is where people get burned.

One disclosure before we start. We build Luca, an AI DM setter that competes with ManyChat for part of the same budget. So every step and policy below is taken from ManyChat's help centre, retrieved August 2026, with links at the bottom. Where keeping ManyChat is your right call, we say so plainly.

## Should you cancel ManyChat at all?

Keep ManyChat if it's doing its job. If comment-to-DM triggers are filling your funnel, your bill has been stable for three months, and you'd rebuild the same flows elsewhere anyway, cancelling gains you nothing. ManyChat is genuinely good at capture, and we said as much in our [ManyChat review](/blog/manychat-review).

Cancel when one of three things is true. The bill has become unpredictable, because Active Contact billing has no payment cap and spikes in launch months. The flows sit unused, because your volume never justified the tool. Or your real problem is conversation, and a flow builder can't ask a lead what's actually stopping them from booking. The full trade-off list is in our [ManyChat pros and cons](/blog/manychat-pros-and-cons) breakdown.

There's also a middle path most people miss: downgrade to Free instead of leaving. More on that decision below.

## Before you cancel: the 20-minute checklist

Do these four things while your paid plan is still active. Every one of them is easier on a paid plan than on Free.

**Export your contacts.** ManyChat's help centre describes three routes: exporting survey responses as a CSV from a Data Collection block, pushing all contacts to a spreadsheet with a Google Sheets "Insert row" action, or pulling full contact data as JSON through an external request. The Google Sheets route carries a limit of 250 requests per 100 seconds, so split a big list into batches or rows will silently drop.

**Save your flow logic.** Screenshot every flow canvas, and write down each keyword trigger with the exact reply it sends. Free keeps only 4 automations live, so anything beyond that stops running even though the content stays saved.

**Redirect active automations.** Edit old captions and stories that say "comment GUIDE" before the trigger dies. A CTA that no longer answers is worse than no CTA, because commenters sit there waiting for a DM that never comes.

**Request your wallet balance back.** If you're leaving entirely, ask for a wallet refund before you start the account-deletion process. It's one of ManyChat's own listed prerequisites.

## How to cancel ManyChat: the exact steps

The whole flow, straight from ManyChat's cancellation article (retrieved August 2026):

1. Log in to ManyChat in a **web browser**. The option isn't available in the mobile app.
2. Go to **Settings -> Billing**.
3. Click **Cancel Subscription**.
4. Choose a reason for cancelling, add a short description, and click **Next**.
5. Click **Cancel My Subscription** to confirm.

Your subscription status changes to "Pending cancellation." You keep every paid feature until the end of the current billing cycle, and you won't be charged again after that. If you change your mind before the cycle ends, a green **Return to Pro** button in the billing settings reverses the whole thing.

One caveat from ManyChat's own article deserves bold type: if your next billing cycle has already started and the invoice has been generated, that charge can still go through. Cancelling stops the renewal after it. Timing matters, and the worked example below shows how much.

## Do you get a refund when you cancel ManyChat?

Usually no. ManyChat's refund policy covers two cases: a technical problem on their side that stopped you from using the service, and cancellation within the first 30 days of purchase. Outside those, the standard outcome is that you keep access until the cycle ends and the money stays spent.

If you qualify, request the refund through ManyChat's support form under Billing & Subscriptions -> Pro Subscription & Pricing -> Refund Request, and describe the reason in detail. Approved refunds return to your card within 10 working days. The policy also states ManyChat can deny a refund at its sole discretion, so write the request factually and include dates.

If the money hasn't landed after 10 working days, check that the card on file matches your bank details, then contact your bank before opening another ticket.

## Should you downgrade to Free, cancel, or delete the account?

Three different actions, three different outcomes. In ManyChat's model, cancelling a paid plan is effectively a downgrade: the Billing FAQ confirms you won't lose data or contacts, your automation content stays intact, and Pro features stop working. Deletion is the only step that destroys anything.

| Your situation | Do this | What you keep |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Flows work, bill is fine | Stay put | Everything |
| Pausing the business for a season | Cancel (drop to Free) | All flows and contacts, 4 automations live |
| Leaving for another tool, might return | Cancel, export first | Data stays; reactivate Pro anytime |
| Leaving for good, privacy matters | Cancel, then delete the account | Nothing; deletion is permanent |

Choose Free if there's any chance you'll come back, because reactivating takes one click and your build is waiting. Choose deletion only when you're certain, since ManyChat states deleted accounts cannot be restored. And if your worry is data sitting on a server, note that ManyChat accepts formal data-deletion requests through its Privacy & Security support option without you deleting the login itself.

## What breaks the moment your plan lapses?

Everything Pro-only stops at the end of your billing cycle, at once. ManyChat's Billing FAQ is blunt about it: all Pro features stop working when the cancellation takes effect. In practice, for a coach, that means five things.

Comment-to-DM triggers beyond your 4 free live automations go dark, including the ones attached to months-old Reels that still collect comments. Welcome flows and default replies tied to Pro features stop answering. WhatsApp, SMS, and email switch off entirely, since the Free plan doesn't include them. The "Powered by Manychat" watermark returns on first contact. And the Free plan's ceiling of 25 Active Contacts a month means any real DM volume hits the wall in days, not weeks.

None of this deletes anything. But a lead who DMs a dead keyword gets silence, and silence reads as neglect. This is why the checklist above has you redirect CTAs before the cycle ends, and why anyone still driving traffic to their DMs should treat [safe Instagram DM automation](/blog/is-instagram-dm-automation-safe) as a handoff problem, not an off switch.

## How do you time your cancellation against the billing date?

Cancel early in your cycle, not near the renewal date. You lose nothing by clicking early, because paid access runs to the end of the cycle either way. You lose a full month by clicking late, because a generated invoice still charges.

Here's the arithmetic. Maya, a nutrition coach, pays $39 a month for Pro, billed on the 9th. On August 25 she decides to leave.

- **She cancels on August 25:** Pro runs until September 8. Extra cost: $0.
- **She waits until September 10:** the September invoice generated on the 9th, so she pays $39 and keeps Pro until October 8. Extra cost: $39, for a two-day delay.

The same logic scales with Active Contact billing. Because ManyChat bills on the contacts you accumulate during the month, a launch month can push you into a higher tier before you cancel. If you've just run a launch, the safest order is: finish the launch, export while the list is fresh, cancel the day after your renewal posts, and use the remaining cycle to migrate. How that bill is calculated is covered in our [ManyChat review](/blog/manychat-review) section on Active Contacts.

## How do you delete your ManyChat account completely?

Deletion is a separate process with prerequisites, and ManyChat won't let you skip them. On a paid plan, you must first cancel the subscription and wait until it expires. Then, per ManyChat's deletion article:

1. Remove every team member (Edit -> Remove).
2. Remove every connected channel, clicking each channel's name and then **Remove**.
3. Request any wallet balance back.
4. Go to **Settings -> General**, click **Delete** next to Delete Account.
5. Type **Delete** in the confirmation box and click **Delete**.

On the Free plan, only steps 4 and 5 apply. Either way the result is the same: all data, automations, settings, and connected resources are permanently removed, and the account cannot be restored. Run the export checklist first, because there is no second chance to pull your contact list.

## What to move to next: three honest paths

The right replacement depends on what ManyChat was actually doing for you. There are three honest branches.

**Your volume was small and capture-shaped.** Don't replace it with anything. ManyChat's own Free plan, or answering your DMs by hand for 30 minutes a day, covers a small inbox fine. Our guide to [Instagram DM automation for coaches](/blog/instagram-dm-automation-for-coaches) covers when hand-answering stops scaling.

**You still want flows, just different ones.** Another flow builder or a lighter Instagram tool is the move, and the honest comparison work matters more than the logo. We've published live-verified breakdowns of [SetSmart vs ManyChat](/blog/setsmart-vs-manychat) and [Inro's pricing](/blog/inro-pricing) if Instagram-only is your world.

**Your problem was conversation, not capture.** Flows execute scripts; they can't qualify a lead who asks a messy question about price. That's the job of a setter, human or AI. An AI setter reads the inbound message, drafts a reply in your voice, and queues it for your approval, which is why the review queue exists: the coach stays the closer, and nothing sends that you didn't approve. Our [best AI DM setter](/blog/best-ai-dm-setter) roundup compares the field, including Luca, with the vendor bias disclosed, and the complete guide to AI setters explains the category from zero.

## Which edge cases should you plan for?

**Annual billing.** ManyChat's pricing page lists annual rates (Pro at $29 a month against $39 month-to-month), while parts of the Billing FAQ still describe monthly billing only, so the docs disagree with each other. If you're on an annual rate, confirm your actual renewal date in Settings -> Billing before you cancel, and remember the refund policy's 30-day window is your only early exit from a prepaid term.

**Agency-managed accounts.** If an agency built your ManyChat, the billing may sit under their login, and only the billing owner sees the Cancel button. Confirm who owns the account before your notice period with the agency ends, and get admin access transferred to you in writing. Team members also have to be removed before any account deletion, so untangle this first.

**WhatsApp numbers.** This is the sharpest edge. Removing the WhatsApp integration stops all automations, and your number stays locked to ManyChat's setup until you delete it from your Meta Business Manager (WhatsApp Manager -> trash icon next to the number). A number purchased from ManyChat is single-use and permanently lost. If WhatsApp is a real channel for you, read our [WhatsApp for coaches](/blog/whatsapp-for-coaches) guide before touching anything, and never delete the ManyChat account while the number question is open.

## Troubleshooting: when the cancellation goes wrong

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Charged after cancelling | The new cycle's invoice generated before you clicked | Cancellation stops the next renewal; if you're within 30 days of purchase, file a refund request |
| No Cancel button anywhere | You're in the mobile app, or not the billing owner | Log in on the web as the account owner; ask your agency if they hold billing |
| Can't delete the account | Subscription hasn't expired, or team members and channels are still attached | Wait out the paid cycle, remove members and channels, then retry |
| Flows still firing after you cancelled | Paid access runs to the end of the billing cycle | Unpublish flows manually, or use ManyChat's Pause all automations action |
| Contact export missing rows | Google Sheets action capped at 250 requests per 100 seconds | Split the audience into smaller batches and rerun |
| WhatsApp number won't connect elsewhere | Number still registered in Meta Business Manager | Delete the number in WhatsApp Manager first, then register it with the new provider |

## Five mistakes people make when they cancel

**Cancelling right after the invoice generates.** A two-day delay past your renewal date costs a full month. Check your billing date first, then click.

**Deleting when downgrading would do.** Deletion is permanent and gains you nothing over the Free plan unless data removal is the goal. Keep the option to return.

**Leaving keyword CTAs live in old content.** Every "comment SCRIPT below" caption keeps recruiting commenters into a trigger that no longer answers. Sweep your last 90 days of posts.

**Exporting after the downgrade.** The paid plan is your window for clean exports at volume. On Free, with 25 Active Contacts a month, you're working through a keyhole.

**Ignoring the WhatsApp number until last.** Number release goes through Meta Business Manager, and a ManyChat-purchased number doesn't survive the move. Plan the number before the cancellation, not after.

Get the order right and how to cancel ManyChat stops being a risk at all: export, redirect, cancel early in the cycle, and decide on deletion later, once the new setup has proven itself for a month.

If you're cancelling because the conversations, not the flows, were the bottleneck, see what a flat-rate AI setter costs on [Luca's pricing](/pricing) page.

## FAQ

### How do I cancel my ManyChat subscription?

Log in on the web, go to Settings -> Billing, click Cancel Subscription, choose a reason with a short description, click Next, then confirm with Cancel My Subscription. The status changes to Pending cancellation, and paid features keep working until the end of your current billing cycle.

### Does ManyChat give refunds?

Only in two cases: a technical issue on ManyChat's side that prevented you from using the service, or cancellation within the first 30 days of purchase. Requests go through the support form under Refund Request, and approved refunds reach your card within 10 working days.

### What happens to my flows and contacts after I cancel ManyChat?

They stay. ManyChat's Billing FAQ states you won't lose data or contacts when you cancel, and automation content remains intact. Pro features stop working, so only 4 automations stay live, and channels like WhatsApp, SMS, and email switch off until you resubscribe.

### Does cancelling ManyChat delete my account?

No. Cancelling drops you to the Free plan with your data intact. Deletion is a separate, permanent action in Settings -> General that requires an expired subscription, removed team members, and removed channels first. Deleted accounts cannot be restored, so export everything before you take that step.

### When does my ManyChat cancellation take effect?

At the end of your current billing cycle, not immediately. You keep every paid feature until then. One catch: if the next cycle's invoice has already been generated, that charge can still go through, and your cancellation applies to the renewal after it.

### Can I cancel ManyChat from the mobile app?

No. ManyChat's help centre states the cancellation option is only available through the website. Open a web browser, log in as the billing owner, and go to Settings -> Billing. If an agency manages your account, the Cancel button may only appear under their login.

### Can I keep my WhatsApp number after leaving ManyChat?

Sometimes. A number you brought yourself can be reused after you delete it from your Meta Business Manager under WhatsApp Manager. A number purchased from ManyChat is single-use and permanently lost when you remove the integration, so plan the number's future before you disconnect anything.
